Summer Camp 2023 Counselor Training Workshops
You are experts in summer fun, we’re experts in understanding children with special needs. We are here to help you make sure every camper has the best summer of their lives. From behavioral support to parent engagement, we can help your counselors know how to respond to a wider variety of children and needs.
Training Options include:
-
Introduction to Special Needs
This training gives a broad overview of different symptoms and needs that your campers may display at camp. We focus on proactive and responsive strategies to sensory needs, social deficits, attention issues, impulse control, participation refusal and more! This training is interactive and comes with a booklet for counselors to apply to their campers. We recommend this training for camps that are new to us, or are expanding their client base to include neurodivergent or special needs children.
-
Behavior Management
Behavior issues don’t have to derail the whole summer, or even the whole day. In this training, we focus on responsive procedures when issues arise. We focus on how to respond in the moment to minimize escalation, how to repair relationships, and how to communicate to parents. Our goal is to give counselors the confidence to respond empathically, appropriately and in a timely manner, while also recruiting support from their team when needed (and not when they don’t!) This training is great for camps who have shadow programs, ESY programs and have inclusive practices. We aim to elevate your practices to support all campers.

Advanced Topics in Special Needs
Already worked with us before? Or maybe you want to enrich the experience your counselors already have. We can offer more advanced trainings such as Fostering Communication and Social Skills, Managing Participation Refusal, Developmental Norms, and more! We can also meet with you to learn about the needs of your campers, and identify areas for growth for your counselors collaboratively. We then develop a custom training to fit the unique needs of your camp, counselors and campers. These trainings offer a nice balance for administrators: access to experts that will understand your camp and it’s rhythm.
